In support of Kindness !!

In our team meeting, we saw a video which emphasized the importance of being kind, which has always been a rarity in today's competitive world.

The lessons were - Being kind won't make you rich or famous and that you still remain anonymous to the whole world but what you get in return is that feeling of love, you witness happiness and a distinct satisfaction at the end of the day which money simply can't buy.

But to be kind isn't always easy due to so many other emotions distracting us. Perhaps, it's also related to how one has been treated in the past or even being treated in the present. How can I be kind when I am not experiencing any kindness? These are not easy questions....

One of the answers to that question can be is that we start afresh - we start treating people well because WE CAN. We are kind because WE CAN!! That's a powerful thought, not an easy one but worth trying and see what it can lead to.. I believe it will compound.... .

I heard in one of the podcasts that there have been studies done which says that our mind can take in 10 million bits and pieces of information per second but from a conscious portion we recognize only 40 which means that most of our actions & reactions on a day to day basis come from our subconscious mind (automatically) which is a collection of the influences and experiences that we have gathered through out our life which eventually brings home my point that I want to make - Kindness when  constantly given and received stays in our psyche and after a point of time, we automatically become, behave and spread kindness..

One small act after another, from one person to another, it will keep adding up and creates a giant ripple and then the ripple continues and we make this world a slightly better place to live

Test cricket's legendary bowler, Shane Warne retired from international competition after the Ashes 2006, thus marking the end of the most glamorous and controversial carrers in the sports glorious history. I think Shane Warne is the grestest cricketer ever (from the time i am watching and following cricket) and it was the perfect retirement party for the showman who made is debut against India way back in January 1992. To take 1000+ wickets in both the versions of the game is simply breathtaking and salute to your versatility, skills, hardwork, mental strength and flexibility. This once-in-life time champion will continue to inspire a generation of kids to take up the art of leg spin. Thanks Warne for giving us everything you could ever give and in the process entertaining millions worldwide and i was privileged enough to watch ur flippers, zooters, wrong uns with bated breath. i just wish u were an Indian !!!

Building bridges !

It is exciting to realize that we all are 'one' interview away from landing that dream role in some great companies that we always aspired to work for but equally scary when we come to terms with the fact that 'networking, connections, randomness and luck'  play an unevenly important part to make that interview happen. When we are seeking to get that breakthrough, we tend to look at others and people around us to see and learn how those before us have done it. At  the same time, companies and their HR partners are looking at easier & less costlier ways to find people to work for them. And I guess, that is what gave birth to 'networking'.  Applying for a job online has become a numbers' game where the odds of your resume getting shortlisted is staked heavily against you. Research has shown that, 70% of people were hired at a company where they already have a connection in place. And on top of it, it has come down to this - it is only not about who you kno...

What are you going to be ?

The society around us has defined leadership in millions of ways and even when you search for the definition of a leader, google comes up with this - a person who leads or commands a group or an organization and that's were the narrative fails, if you ask me. A true 'leader' is the one who strives to create an environment where people can express themselves fearlessly, a trait which is very rare in a corporate world and usually not associated with being a leader but then that's where the 'difference of opinion' arise.  We have always associated a leader with a larger than life image who is followed by everybody but in reality what we need is a person who can lift everybody around him and make them even more smarter, and bigger. He gets the desired results but at the same time makes his team/people even better than he found them. A leader will always look and protect his tribe. On the other hand, managers get a set of tasks done by their employees on a daily basi...
